Happy New Year!

We’ve had a great start to the semester! Your students came back with so much energy and are eager to get back in the swing of things. We read “The Little Red Hen” this week and discussed story elements- characters, setting, problem, and resolution. We are working on consonant clusters and reading simple stories. A consonant cluster consists of two or more consonant sounds, one after another, without an intervening vowel sound. These are also referred to as blends. In math, we are composing and decomposing numbers within 10.

Reminders: 

-Since the weather is getting colder, please send your student to school with a jacket each day. We go outside for recess each day and want them to be nice and warm outside!

-One peanut free snack and filled water bottle should be sent each day.

-Students should come to school in SSA each day. SSA includes navy, black, and khaki bottoms. Dresses and jumpers can be any solid color. Shirts can be any solid color with a collar. PPE t-shirts and sweatshirts can be worn any day of the week. PPE athletic shorts and skorts can be worn on Fridays.

ELA Module Learning Goals
Knowledge Goals:
– Identify the differences among the seasons and how they affect life on the farm.
– Describe key details about different farm animals, including how they help humans.
– Retell classic folktales featuring farm animal characters, using various story elements as a guide.
– Understand the elements that make up a narrative and how these elements work together to create a cohesive story.

Reading Goals:

– Produce and expand sentences using frequently occurring nouns and verbs as well as prepositions.
– Write the letters that represent most phonemes, and apply them to their own writing and drawing.
– Expand understanding of word meanings through discussion, real-life connections, and sorting common objects into categories.
