2nd Grade News: 09/06/2024

Ask your 2nd Grader:

  • Can you recount what happens in A Color of His Own?
  • What does the word camouflage mean? Can you use it in a sentence?
  • What is the two letter suffix we add to a verb to show that it happened in the past? What are the three different pronunciations for -ed?
  • What are two different ways to represent the number 83? 
  • Which is greater, 7 tens or 3 hundreds?
  • What is the job of an engineer?

 

What 2nd Graders Are Learning Next Week:

 ELA (English Language Arts):

  • Wit and Wisdom Module 1: A Season of Change
    • Essential Question: How does change impact people and nature? 
    • Learning Goals:
      • Compare the chameleon’s attempts to solve the problem in the beginning and at the end of A Color of His Own.
      • Choose evidence that provides support of an explanation of the ways the chameleon changes. 
      • Construct simple sentences with one or more subjects and multiple verbs based on the characters in A Color of His Own.
      • Write an informative paragraph about how the chameleon changes, including a topic statement and evidence that supports the topic. 
      • Determine the central message of A Color of His Own.
      • Describe knowledge and skills gained from reading A Color of His Own.
      • Link students’ own comments to the remarks of others in a discussion comparing the Little Yellow Leaf and the chameleon. 
      • Vary sentence structures by combining sentences using conjunctions.

Tennessee Foundational Skills:

  • Review and assess Unit 1 skills
  • Spelling words: sand, hunt, thin, sang, hung, thing, sank, hunk, think, should

 

Math:

  • Place Value

 

Social Studies/Science (We will rotate between science and social studies every two weeks.):

  • Physical and Political Maps

CLUB INFORMATION

Crazy 8s Math Club – Possible session to be added!  Please see the info….If Wednesday doesn’t work for your child and they want to participate, please fill out the form and return it.  There is a place for you to indicate if your child can attend Thursday and/or Friday in case another session needs to be opened up.  I’m hearing of several students that want to attend, but already have a club on Wednesdays so I’m gauging interest in another session.  Looking forward to some Crazy math with your kiddos!!
