2nd Grade News: 09/20/2024

Ask your 2nd Grader:

  • What happens to leaves and trees in winter? Spring? Summer? Fall?
  • What gives leaves their green color?
  • What is the purpose of a conclusion sentence in an informative paragraph? Where would the conclusion sentence be found in the paragraph?
  • In what place can you look to determine if a number is even or odd?
  • Is 987 an even or odd number?
  • How do you write 608 in expanded form? Word form? Unit form?
  • What is a physical map? What is a political map? What is a road map? Which type of map would you use to determine which landforms might be found in a specific area?

  • Wit and Wisdom Module 1: A Season of Change
    • Essential Question: How does change impact people and nature? 
    • Learning Goals:
      • Identify the connections between texts and module learning. 
      • Publish an informative paragraph about the impact of weather on trees in fall.
      • Self-assess informative paragraphs for compound sentences, module vocabulary, and complete sentences.
      • Describe the impact of color in Sky Tree paintings.
      • Generate and respond to student-generated questions about Sky Tree, including questions about the meaning of unknown words.
      • Revise a simple paragraph about trees by inserting missing sentences.
      • Select the best definition of multiple-meaning words flutter and huddle and consider how a variety of verbs depict actions in Sky Tree.
      • Identify and sequence key details in Sky Tree.
      • Identify and revise missing elements of a sample informative paragraph about the river in Sky Tree.

Tennessee Foundational Skills:
