PTO Newsletter 11/22
As we head into Thanksgiving break, we want to take a moment to share our gratitude for our incredible Percy Priest Elementary community. From your generous support of INVEST to your participation in school events, you make our school such a special place. We are thankful for our amazing teachers, staff, and Principal, and we’re thrilled to see the progress on our new building, which will soon be a space for even more learning and growth. We wish you and your family a wonderful week filled with rest, joy, and safe travels. Happy Thanksgiving!

MNPS Voices: Spotlight on Ms. Cathy!
We all already know how amazing Ms. Cathy is but take a look at this great MNPS spotlight feature where you might learn some pretty neat things about our General Assistant and very own PPE “hero”. Thank you Ms. Cathy!
As you are cleaning out over Christmas break, start gathering your used books for the annual used book sale, happening in February. We welcome books that are appropriate for Kindergarteners through 5th graders, and we especially need chapter books.
This event will happen about a week ahead of the Read-A-Thon so the kids will get excited and have “new” books to read. Donation bins will be on the PPE front steps.
We will need volunteers to help during the sale in February, so be on the look-out to sign up for that in the future. Feel free to reach out to Gillian Stewart, gstewart0707@gmail.com, or Avery Van Pelt, avery.t.vanpelt@gmail.com, with any questions!
Percy’s Presents: Help PPE Families in Need
One of the best parts of Percy Priest is the sense of community. It’s heartwarming to see families come together to support each other.
This year the school counselors are excited to host a Percy’s Presents program to help our PPE families who need some help for the holidays.
Ways you can help?
- Sponsor a child or family by purchasing clothes, toys, & necessities
- Sponsor a food box for a family
If you are interested in offering some support through a donation or purchase of toys, clothing, and necessities for a child, please contact Mrs. Kelley, school counselor, at jessica.kelley@mnps.org.
Thank you for your support with our community!
Mrs. Baxter, Mrs. KB, and Mrs. Kelley
Community Talents, Skills, and Businesses
We love our PPE community and know that supporting each other is what makes our school incredible. Our parents, alumni, caregivers, and special friends have such amazing skills and talents, and even dedicate their time to nurturing and growing their own businesses. If you are interested in sharing your skills, talents, or business information, so that the greater PPE community may support you or use those skills, let us know! After you fill out this simple form, stay tuned – we will help spread the word or contact you with opportunities to use your skills or talents in a meaningful way that benefits the PPE community.
Small World Yoga, a nonprofit connecting yoga with the community, will be bringing two yoga clubs to Percy Priest Elementary in 2025—one for K-2 and one for 3-5 students. Yoga sessions will likely be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 3:15-4:00 pm during the spring semester. If any Percy Priest parents are certified yoga teachers and interested in teaching or substituting, please email mikka@smallworldyoga.org for more info or visit Small World Yoga’s website to get started.
December 6: Navigator Day and AHA Kids Heart Challenge
Friday, December 6th will be our next Navigator Day. This Navigator Day will mark the conclusion of our annual American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge. This means that families have until the end of this week to register and help us reach our goal of becoming three-time national champions.
You can register by visiting the PPE AHA Page or downloading the AHA schools app.
If we have 400 students register and watch the hands-only CPR and warning signs of a stroke videos, then we will be hosting a staff duck race competition. When students complete the registrations and watch the two videos they will also be able to cast a vote on which staff members they would like to see participate in the race. In addition to voting, each of these students will be entered into a drawing to serve as a race course team member to help with the duck race. Thank you for encouraging participation and helping our students become heart heroes.
Please reach out to Mrs. Tanner (amy.tanner@mnps.org) with any questions.
