Percy Priest Elementary opened its doors in September 1957 as a K-6 school. The school’s namesake was to honor Percy Priest. An Americanteacher, journalist and politician who represented Tennessee in the United States House of Representatives from 1941 until his death. The dedication of the school occurred soon after the doors open and children began their educational journey. The principal speaker was Dr. Howard Kirksey, who was the dean of instruction at Middle Tennessee State College at the time. His speech was as . He said, “I know this is a good school because there are so many parents here today.” That quote has been echoed throughout the nearly 7 decades since.
The school has been the educational foundation for thousands of students. The goals of our history are woven throughout every new school year. With the new school structure, we will carry those values with us.
