Percy Priest Elementary's New Building
Open for students and the first school year August, 2025!
In September 1957, Percy Priest Elementary opened its doors in the Forest Hills neighborhood serving children in K-6 grade. In September 2023, 66 years later, we broke ground on our brand new school. This beautiful, updated, larger building will become the home to our Tigers (including Percy!), which will include Pre-K through 5th Grades, in August 2025.
While we wait for the exciting new school year and building, this spot will host FAQs and any other building related information.
New Building FAQs
FAQ 8: We are returning families but this building and back to school will be new to us. How do we learn more about what has changed for back to school? Whether you are a new family or returning for your 5th grade year – everyone will be “new” to Percy Priest and this new building this coming school year. School and PTO leadership are actively working on all the information you need to be prepared for day 1 (Aug 5). Keep an eye on the newsletter for all things back to school over summer!
FAQ 7: When is the last time I can see the current building? Removal of the current building will happen quickly after school is out in May. Make sure to join us for Percy’s Moving Party to say “goodbye” to the building before the end of school. More information on this exciting May 18 event will be coming in the next few weeks!
FAQ 6: What is something exciting about the new Cafeteria we don’t know? We are glad you asked! The Cafeteria is much larger than our existing building. With this and the combination of upgraded acoustic panels we are expecting a positive impact on the lunch time environment!
FAQ 5: When will we bury the time capsule? The plan is at the spring event so stay tuned for ways to contribute, how to bid (at auction) on the job of burying it, and more!
FAQ 4: How many Pre-K classes will there be? We will have two Pre-K classes of 20 students each and they will have a separate playground.
FAQ 3: What will change about carline? Transportation will be different at our new school including separate loops for cars and busses. Watch for more information coming late summer on transportation protocols.
FAQ 2: When will I get to tour the building? Some special 2024 Auction winners are taking their VIP tours over the next few weeks but we have great news. The General PTO meeting was moved from January to March 18 so that we could offer a sneak-a-peek! Stay tuned for more information about our March meeting that will be all things “Navigating Transitions” and will include a peak in the new building.
FAQ 1: Will we be able to buy a brick for the new building? We are definitely planning a buy-a-brick or similar fundraiser so you can be part of this new building in a special way. The fundraiser timing is still TBD and will likely happen with INVEST in August 2025 so we can better align with fundraising needs and construction timing.
