Ask your 2nd Grader:

  • How does the change in fall weather impact people and nature?
  • What part of an informative paragraph states the main (essential) idea or what the paragraph is about?
  • What is a polygon?
  • How many vertices and sides does a pentagon have?
  • Can you name some attributes of a hexagon?
  • What is the difference between a map and a globe?

 ELA (English Language Arts):

  • Wit and Wisdom Module 1: A Season of Change
    • Essential Question: How does change impact people and nature? 
    • Learning Goals:
      • Recount what happens in The Little Yellow Leaf.
      • Explain why evidence is important in informative writing. 
      • Create a word line for soared that demonstrates understanding of shades of meaning and how word choice affects the text.
      • Explain what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of The Little Yellow Leaf.
      • Identify what information is provided in the beginning and end of a story and the purpose of each. 
      • Analyze how adjectives help describe the setting and action in The Little Yellow Leaf.
      • Identify the central message of The Little Yellow Leaf.

Important Information/Reminders:

  • If your child is participating in an after-school club, please email your child’s teacher to let them know. 
  • Homework will begin after Labor Day. It will typically be sent home on Mondays (unless school is out on a Monday) and will be due the following Monday.
  • Our first spelling test is Friday, August 30th. Spelling words are listed above and will also be sent home on Monday, August 26th. 
  • Please return the first day forms as soon as possible.
