Ask your 2nd Grader:

  • When paired with r, which vowels make the /er/ sound?
  • What sound does the ‘y’ make in gymnast? What sound does the ‘y’ make in try? What sound does the ‘y’ make in yellow?
  • How would you make the noun butterfly plural? 
  • How does a bar model or tape diagram help you make sense of a word problem? How is a model different from a strategy? 
  • Which operation do you use to solve a problem if the whole is missing from the bar model? Which operation do you use to solve a problem if a part is missing from the bar model?
