Ask your 2nd Grader:

  • What was the problem in the text, Separate is Never Equal? How was it resolved?
  • What differences do you notice between how Sylvia and Ruby responded to injustice?
  • How can you add details to narrative writing?
  • How do you find the area of a rectangle? How does your knowledge of arrays help you find the area of a rectangle?
  • What are animal adaptations?
  • What are some examples of animal adaptations involving body parts that you learned about? 

 

What 2nd Graders Are Learning Next Week:

 ELA (English Language Arts):

  • Wit and Wisdom Module 3: Civil Rights Heroes
    • Essential Question: How can people respond to injustice?
    • Learning Goals: 
      • Acknowledge differences in point of view.
      • Compare and contrast important points in two texts on the same topic. 
      • Ask and answer questions to deepen understanding. 
      • Collect evidence to answer the End of Module Task (narrative).
      • Write a narrative paragraph.
      • Finish drafting a narrative paragraph.
      • Revise a narrative paragraph. 
      • Strengthen writing based on feedback.
      • Determine the meaning of the new word formed when the prefix co- is added to a known word.

  • Tennessee Foundational Skills:
    • Read words with different spellings for /k/ sound – ‘c’ as in candle, ‘k’ as in kite, ‘ck’ as in back, ‘cc’ as in soccer, ‘ch’ as in school
    • Read and write words with different spellings for the /ee/ sound – ‘ee’ as in bee, ‘ea’ as in beach, ‘e_e’ as in Pete, ‘e’ as in me, ‘ey’ as in key, ‘y’ as in funny, ‘ie’ as in cookie, ‘i’ as in ski
    • Read words with the tricky spelling ‘i’ – /ee/ as in pizza, /ie/ as in kind, /i/ as in fit
