Kindergarten News: 5/12
Hello Families!
We continued learning about the continents this week- we explored South America and Australia. We’re continuing to practice reading with automaticity and fluency. We started discussing the “magic e” rule- when e makes the vowel say its name long! In math, we are building fluency with addition and subtraction.
Reminders:
-All library books were due Tuesday, May 2nd. Please send any PPE library books in with your student if you still have them. Overdue book notices were sent home this week.
-Kindergarten Classroom Farwell will take place on Wednesday, May 17th at 1:45pm. We hope you can join us for a short celebration in our classrooms!
-One peanut free snack and filled water bottle should be sent each day.
-Students should come to school in SSA each day. SSA includes navy, black, and khaki bottoms. Dresses and jumpers can be any solid color. Shirts can be any solid color with a collar. PPE t-shirts and sweatshirts can be worn any day of the week. PPE athletic shorts and skorts can be worn on Fridays.

ELA Module Learning Goals
Knowledge Goals:
-Identify the seven continents.
-Describe the different natural features, things to do, and animals on each continent.
-Demonstrate understanding of maps and their purpose.
-Understand how illustrations, photographs, and words in a text communicate important information.
Reading Goals
-Ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text.
-Recognize and sort common types of text.
-Describe the relationship between the words and illustrations in a text.
-Identify the reasons an author gives to support a point in the text.
-Identify similarities and differences between two texts on the same topic.
Writing Goals
-Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to name a topic and state an opinion about the topic.
-Respond to questions and suggestions from a peer and add detail based on feedback.
-Collect evidence from the texts and use it support responses to a prompt.
Speaking and Listening Goals
-Confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information presented orally by giving an example of something heard or understood.
-Describe familiar people, places, things, and events to provide additional detail.
Language Goals
-Produce and expand complete sentences beginning each sentence with a capital letter.
-Recognize and name end punctuation.
-Identify new meanings of familiar words and use them accurately.
-Use the most frequently occurring inflections and affixes to determine the meaning of an unknown word.
-Demonstrate understanding of frequently occurring verbs and adjectives by relating them to their opposites.
-Distinguish between shades of meaning of verbs describing the same general action by acting out their meanings.
Math Unit Goals
-Students consolidate and solidify their understanding of various concepts and skills on major work of the grade. They also continue to work toward fluency goals of the grade.
Section C Goals
-Fluently add and subtract within 5.
Section D Goals
-Use understanding of 10 to work with numbers to 20.
Social/Emotional Learning (SEL)
