PTO Newsletter 9/13

Don’t miss Percy’s Vintage Closet sale this Thursday the 19th during/after drop off. There is so much great “pre-loved” PPE swag and it’s a great fundraiser for the school.

Buckle up everyone! We have a ton of exciting school related events coming up and can’t wait to see more of our community at the various outings, meet-ups, volunteer opps, and more. See below for a rundown of all the exciting chances to connect and support our amazing school.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported and attended our Tiger Cup Golf Outing! It was a great morning of fun and community and the weather was perfect. Thank you again to all of our sponsors as well as our incredible Co-Chairs, Jennifer Jones and Ashley Tummins.

INVEST UPDATE… Help us Reach 100%!

Don’t forget to INVEST! While striving to meet our donation goal, remember that pledging to support (without a monetary donation) also hits the participation target as well. We would love to see 100% participation and we know we can do it! You can find more information on INVEST here and below.

Upcoming Community and Fundraiser Events

September 17: General PTO Meeting

All are welcome to our general PTO meeting this coming Tuesday evening, 6-7 pm in the PPE Library. We will have three incredible topics to cover in the hour:

Topic 1: PPE Counselor Overview and Grief-Sensitive School Initiative

Did you know that Percy Priest was designated a Grief-Sensitive School because of the efforts to better equip educators and other school personnel to care for grieving students? Our Counselors care deeply about the ability to understand grief and support our students during times of grief, and they want you to learn more about this initiative and what it means for PPE and your students.

Topic 2: Phone Free Schools: Learn More

More and more elementary school-aged children are getting phones and communication watches. Oftentimes it only takes one device to distract a whole classroom or teacher. Come learn more about the many benefits of adopting and implementing a distraction free policy.

Topic 2: PPE C.A.R.E

We are a group of parents seeking to connect the disability community at PPE. Our goals are to bridge families with community resources, provide inclusive social opportunities, and share parenting challenges and wins.

C- Connection (between the disability community at PPE, humans, and our brains and hearts through neuroscience)
A- Abilities
R- Real World
E- Education

As we make connections and find support through this community, together we can model and learn about how much we, as a PPE community, C.A.R.E. The common denominator between all of us is the fact that we have brains and hearts. Even better? The brain is malleable and the Grinch has proved a heart can grow. Let’s go beyond “just different” to understand.
